Let me picture what was announced during Day 1 for you. |
Day1 :
The Synergy event was started by AC/DC “Hell Bells” rock music… M. CARR (Does IT Matter writer) opened the keynote with the following key messages : - IT is now a “general purpose” technology - There is a “cloud computing” trend today in the market (for consumer) - Hardware is turning back into software (flexibility of virtualization)
Mark Templeton used DirecTV analogy to explain the concept of the Delivery Center with Controller/Gateway/Repeater and Receiver along the way down to the user…

Mark Templeton introduced 5 main topics for today :
Web Applications Introduction of Citrix NetScaler MPX web application controller - 20X more raw throughput - 15G bandwidth
A partnership with Akamai where, for Web Application Delivery: - NetScaler is the Controller - Akamai is the repeater
Windows Applications Introduce XenApp for Windows Server 2008 - Actually more than 100 Million users - The only solution that deliver application to both side

Enhanced Experience - Single Password - Secure Access - Integrated Telephony - Performance Monitoring - On Demand Support - Acceleration and Optimization
- Regarding Acceleration, Mark Templeton introduced Brand Repeater that has 3 capabilities . Application Delivery Staging (cache of streamed application) . Branch Office Windows Services . Wan Optimization
- Regarding End User Experience, Mark Templeton introduced the App Receiver which is the framework to receive any client software as a plug in (ICA, streaming, GoToxx, VPN, 3rd parties…)
Application Workload - Introduction of Citrix XenServer with 6 months of Citrix history and 2 releases… - Announcement of outstanding performance : Citrix XenApp over Citrix XenServer will only have 8% overhead impact (meaning 310 users versus 287) !
Desktop Delivery - Official launch of Citrix XenDesktop with 3 key points in mind : . Hi-Def user experience . Desktops as a Services (DaaS) . Real Time assembly and delivery
- 2 main announcements were made regarding XenDesktop : . Creation of a specific version of XenApp for Virtual Desktops . Creation of a full product line :
XenDesktop Express Edition : free for 10 ccu (0 USD) XenDesktop Standard Edition : no ccu limit (75 USD) XenDesktop Advanced Edition : include Provision Capabilities (using PVS) (195 USD) XenDesktop Enterprise Edition : include XenApp for Virtual Desktop (295 USD) XenDesktop Platinum : include “DaaS” (the line of sight) (395 USD)
XenApp Platinum user could add XenDesktop in the picture with a 95 USD upgrade fee.

Regarding WorkFlow Studio, the TechPreview was announced for the next 2 weeks.
